Truly Solving A Problem With Natural Sunscreens
When you go out for a day in the sun, hopefully you remember to take care of your skin with a good sunscreen or sunblock. Chances are that if you have experienced a bad burn before you will remember. But have you ever considered that your sunscreen may be causing more harm than it prevents?
Recently more information is coming out about some of the chemicals and compounds that are included in many sunscreens. Some of the most popular ingredients have proven to be harmful to us and/or to the environment. This is why it is more important than ever to choose natural sunscreens.
Oxybenzone is one compound that is commonly used and creates problems. It enters the blood stream and disrupts the hormone balance in your body. Retinyl palmitate is found in a wide variety of sunscreens. It is a kind of A vitamin that possibly increases skin damage and the risk of skin cancer when exposed to sunlight.
These are just a few of the ingredients that can be harmful for you that are lurking in many bottles of sunscreen. This is not even going into the PABA and parabens that can cause damage to marine life.
Fortunately there are many other options besides just what you grew up wearing for sunscreen. Now that more people are aware of their health and also caring for the environment, more people are interested in things like natural sunscreens.
Many different companies are getting in on the action. Natural sunscreens can be found in many new and specialty companies that focus on providing natural product, but they are also popping up more and more in regular, longer established sunscreen companies.
Some things to look for in natural sunscreens are that they do not contain the above mentioned harmful ingredients: parabens, oxybenzone and retinyl palmitate. Also, you want to look for natural moisturizers.
Some of the moisturizing ingredients you will find in natural sunscreens include cocoa butter, shea butter, beeswax and various natural oils such as nut and seed oils.
You might also look at organic natural sunscreens. These will have organically grown ingredients wherever possible. This is yet another way you can ensure that you are keeping the chemicals out of your body as well as out of the water supply and natural water sources when you wash it off.
What used to be difficult to find except in specialty shops or online is now coming into the mainstream. You will find a wide range of sun protection products that will give you the most natural option for protecting your skin.
When you are looking to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun, don’t make matters worse by choosing a sunscreen that will cause you more trouble. Natural sunscreens are the best for your skin and for the environment, too.
