Protective Sun Hats, Style And Protection
There is no question that your head is one of the parts of your body most likely to be too heavily exposed to the sun. We have all seen people coming home from the beach with their face as red as a lobster or blisters on their ears or nose. It is unpleasant, but it is true.
And have you ever had a sunburn on your head? Like where your hair is parted? That is terrible. It hurts every time you comb your hair and once it starts peeling? You look like you have a horrendous case of dandruff.
Hats and caps can provide a significant level of protection from the sun, but obviously only on the part of your head that is covered. Also, because hats are made from a normal breathable material, UV rays still sneak through, particularly UVA rays which don’t cause a sunburn but still do damage.
One solution to the problem of overexposure to the sun on your head is to wear protective sun hats. These differ from regular hats most particularly in that they are made of a material that does not allow UV rays to pass through.
Sunscreen hats are a much better option than a regular hat. They usually will give better coverage and the areas covered are generally almost completely protected from UV rays as opposed to regular hats that provide only half or even less of the protection.
Many sun protective hats look much like regular hats. You can purchase those made of fabric as well as made of a straw like material. These are both tightly woven material that doesn’t allow the rays to get through.
Children love to spend a lot of time out under the sun. This is good for them to be outside getting fresh air and exercise, but it certainly poses health risks when they absorb too much UV light from the sun. Protective sun hats are a particularly good idea for children.
Protective sun hats, especially those for children often come in a style that provides maximum coverage. They might look much like a typical baseball cap but also have a flap of material that hangs off of the back. This material covers the ears and the neck, two common places for the worst sunburn.
Special sunscreen hats may not be easy to find right away. Take a look online to find retailers that sale them. Some are specialty sun protective clothing shops. You might want to order them online and have them shipped to you. This is the best way to have a large selection to choose from, rather than just what is available in a store.
Sun protective hat will come with a UPF, or UV protection factor number that indicates the level of protection it provides. This can be applied in a similar way to the SPF level of sunscreens.
Keeping your head protected with a sunscreen hat will allow you to come home from a day out in the sun without being in pain every time you change your facial expression or comb your hair. More importantly it protects you skin from cancer causing UV rays.
